Process for defining report content.

2010 Corporate Commitment to Sustainability:Taking Action on Our Most Material Issues: p. 2

Arizona Chemical conducted its first materiality assessment in early 2010. It formed the basis for determining priority topics in the 2009 Sustainability Report. In early 2011 we conducted a second materiality assessment. We used this assessment to determine priority topics for the 2010 Sustainability Report.

For the initial 2010 materiality assessment, we defined content based on the GRI topics in the Disclosures, Aspects and Indicators. When we conducted our second materiality assessment, we refined the survey and expanded its distribution to more stakeholders. The stakeholders surveyed fall into five categories: the internal Sustainability Team, the internal Commercial Group, the internal Global Lead Team, the external Savannah Community Group, and the external new Board of Directors. Their responses were equally weighted in determining priority topics for this 2010 report.

The materiality assessment results that we use as the foundation for the 2010 report showed that with the addition of new stakeholders and a reevaluation by previous ones that our priorities have shifted. We believe that some of the changes are due to progress made during the year and others to having different issues rise to the forefront. Topics that declined in emphasis in the most recent assessment were climate and energy legislation, corporate governance, employee opportunities, and procurement practices.

The target audiences for this report are customers and employees.

3.6
Boundary of the report (e.g., countries, divisions, subsidiaries, leased facilities, joint ventures, suppliers). See GRI Boundary Protocol for further guidance.

Information presented throughout the report represents the facilities for which Arizona Chemical has operational control.

3.7
State any specific limitations on the scope or boundary of the report (see completeness principle for explanation of scope).

The report encompasses only the operations over which Arizona Chemical has direct control. The report does not include sustainability information from our suppliers, customers or contract manufacturers. Arizona Chemical conducts less than 5% of its manufacturing externally under tolling agreements. That data is not included in this report and we have determined that exclusion of this data does not materially affect the conclusions of this report.

Beneficial ownership includes 25%AZ Chem Investments Partners LP (Rhône Capital III) and 75% AS-AZC Holdings, LLC (American Securities and management investors).

3.9
Data measurement techniques and the bases of calculations, including assumptions and techniques underlying estimations applied to the compilation of the Indicators and other information in the report. In accordance with GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, we have measured data in ways that are consistent with GRI’s preferences whenever possible. Throughout the report we indicate in applicable sections assumptions used to compile data.  Our Global Business Process approach and other systems have all contributed to our data gathering, analysis and presentation.
