Use and Exposure Mapping
The registration of substances under REACH also includes the use and exposure information necessary for the Chemical Safety Assessment (CSA) and Chemical Safety Report (CSR). REACH Article 37.2 allows downstream users to communicate use and exposure information up the supply chain, and Arizona Chemical has been mapping the use and exposure of its substances with the assistance of its clients. It would be an impossible task to contact all customers of all substances manufactured, but we believe we have captured the necessary information for the substances we will register in 2010.
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has produced guidance on coding the use and exposure mapping which has been used for this exercise. Please click on the links below for more information.
Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.12: Use Descriptor System
Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.16: Environmental Exposure Estimation
Similarly, branch organizations and trade associations have employed the same basis, using the DUCC (Downstream Users of Chemicals Co-ordination group) http://www.duccplatform.org.
The use and exposure mapping supported by Arizona Chemical for the substances it manufactures and imports is summarized in the table below. This list will be revised at regular intervals as new information becomes available. For the products listed and the mapped use/exposure, it will not be necessary for you to contact us. However if you see that a product you purchase is not listed or that its use and exposure is not covered by the associated use/exposure map then you should contact the Arizona Chemical REACH Team at regulatory.eu@azchem.com.
Please bear in mind that many of the products supplied by Arizona Chemical are polymers and therefore exempt from the Registration requirements of REACH, and it is not necessary to map their use and exposure. Also we believe that Tall Oil Fatty Acid (TOFA) is exempt from REACH according to Annex V. Please find below the HARRPA statement. This applies to the SYLFAT® range of products.
