High Performance Tackifiers

Pneumatic tires and many rubber goods are manufactured by plying up sheets of rubber compounds. The surface of the rubber sheets must be tacky to impart handling or green strength to the layered construction, and ability to form a rubbery network across the contact zone. In addition, the surface requires high bond strength, avoiding delaminating and blistering during vulcanization.

This attribute called “building tack” is essential in the rubber industry, particularly with increased usage of synthetic rubbers which are inherently less tacky than natural rubber. Special additives are needed which impart building tack to compounds made predominantly with synthetic rubbers. Although a number of tackifiers are available, there is demand for materials which provide better tack retention upon storage of the compounds and which are less sensitive to climate variations during compound storage and manufacturing processes.

Arizona Chemical’s high performance tackifiers grade SYLVATRAXX 2101 addresses these demands by outperforming several existing tackifiers resins. SYLVATRAXX™ 2101 demonstrates a very consistent tack performance which is not significantly affected by storage time and conditions.
