Roads and Roadmarking

It is widely recognized that well maintained road markings contribute significantly to improving road safety. Effective marking can also reduce the energy requirement for highway lighting. Arizona Chemical provides renewable rosin based binder chemistries that are used in thermoplastic road markings.


Thermoplastic Roadmarking

During the 1950’s, thermoplastic pavement markings were invented to meet the growing need to apply cost effective markings to the world’s growing road network. Today they are the most widely used form of road marking. Thermoplastic pavement markings are typically homogeneous dry mixes of binder resins, plasticizers, glass beads, pigments, and fillers.  The use of thermoplastic pavement markings has increased over time due to the performance benefits, primarily in increased durability, retro-reflectivity, and lack of VOC solvents.

Arizona Chemical is a major supplier of renewable rosin based binder chemistries that are used in thermoplastic pavement markings. The products are supplied predominantly under the SYLVATAC™ and SYLVACOTE™ product brand names.
